Killa Hill: The Park Hill Documentary

Killa Hill: The Park Hill Documentary

New York, NY (October 13, 2009) —- After 16 years of making award-winning music videos, films and socially conscious documentaries, from “Liberia: The Love Of Liberty” to “Bloody Streetz” to “WU: The Story of The Wu-Tang Clan”Gerald “Gee-Bee” Barclay returns with yet another compelling film, “Killa Hill: The Park Hill Documentary.”

Killa Hill addresses the issues of urban crime and violence caused by the crack cocaine epidemic of the late 1980’s. Killa Hilla is the nickname used to describe The Park Hill Apartments – located in a six block radius of the Clifton neighborhood in Staten Island. Park Hill, during this period, served as a refuge and home to thousands of Liberian immigrants. The movie centers on the police killing of 22-year old Liberian national Ernest Sayon. The documentary contains graphic reenactments and beautiful cinematography – delivered “Gee-Bee” Style.

As news cameras highlight teen gang beatings and death of honor student Derrion Albert in Chicago (home to President Obama), “Killa Hill delivers a timely and relevant message as it delves into the mind-set and conditions resulting from the drug epidemic and violence that plagues many urban neighborhoods across the United States,” says Barclay.

The 112 minute movie premieres; Friday, October 16, 2009 at Snug Harbor Cultural Center Music Hall, 1000 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island NY – 8:00 p.m. Tickets are currently on sale for the world premiere of Killa Hill: The Park Hill Documentary at http://www.killahillmovie.com. About Gerald “Gee-Bee Productions” Barclay:

Gerald K. Barclay, professionally known as Gee-Bee, is a veteran music video director, producer, writer and editor. His story begins after fleeing the devastating civil war in his native Liberia. He settled in New York City and graduated with a Communications degree from City University of New York. He gained early filmmaking experience in the early nineties on Abel Ferrara’s “King of New York”, Spike Lee’s “Jungle Fever” before enrolling into a mentorship under Emmy winning filmmaker Tony Lover at Liberty Studios. He then formed his own production company Gee-Bee Productions and went on to helmed over a hundred music video clips for artists such as Wu-Tang Clan, Master P., Snoop Dog, Bounty Kill, Mystical, Pig Pun, Ill & Al Scratch and The Gap Band.

Always one to reinvent himself, he sought new challenges, making a jump to the world of feature films. His first film, BLOODY STREETZ (originally entitled BLOODY CRISIS), was completed for a budget under a hundred thousand dollars and saw Gee-Bee take on the multiple hats of director, writer, producer, editor… even promoter. The gritty urban thriller won critical praise and a Vision Award at the 2002 Pan African Film Festival and was released through Artisan Home Entertainment.

In 2001, Gee-Bee returned to his African roots and produced & directed another visionary and critically acclaimed feature length documentary, “LIBERIA: THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE”, A touching and powerfully emotional documentary on the tragic aftermath of the Liberian civil war.

His most recent work, “Wu: the Story Of The Wu-tang Clan”, is a thirteen-year intimate portrayal of the Wu-Tang Clan chronicling the rise and fall of one of hip-hop’s most notorious groups. His current film, Killa Hill- a Park Hill Documentary is described as a hip-hop action drama. http://www.geebeeproductions.com

FBC Senior Citizen Hip Hop Choir!

I know it has been a little while since I’ve posted but so much has been going on like:
The new economy, global positioning, parent-hood and just trying to define what it means to be an entrepreneurial parent.
However, when I saw this video today of this group of seniors living their entrepreneurial dream and getting their “groove on” I could not help but be inspired!

Enjoy – and remember you’re never too old to make it happen! GO GET ‘EM Y’ALL —

Living Your Dream – Happy MLK Day

Living The Dream - Martin Luther King, Jr

Living The Dream - Martin Luther King, Jr

On this most historic day, we look back almost 40 years – when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr had a DREAM.

The difference between having a dream and achieving it is a matter of a few million steps.. The important thing is that EVERYDAY we must commit to ONE more step – even if it appears small.

Tomorrow, The United States of America will inaugurate its 44th President, Barack Obama. The dynamics and mechanisms at work with the universe to have these two incidents coincide within a day of one another is something short of destined.

With this in mind, I am reminded of the phrase “Walk Into Your Season.” Yes folks, I am crystal clear that we all have our season and destiny – and it is imperative that we tune into those elements that are “conspiring” to place us in our own historical place.

So, NEVER, EVER Stop working and living your DREAM.

See you at the Top of The Mountain –

Michelle Obama’s Mama To Move Into White House……

Obama Family Transition

Word has it that the first Grandma, Marian Robinson will be moving into the White House – To This I say KUDOS to the first family for keeping family first!

So, many times in our worship of “youth culture” we forget about the contributions, wisdom and insight our parents, grandparents and ancestors. I am here to say that if we do not know our past we cannot possibly understand our present and thus our future. Our elders are the griots or storytellers that keep the bloodlines strong. Just think, we would not be here without the previous generations – and until we begin to embrace every generation of our family we will never succeed.

I for one, have ALWAYS included my children’s grandparents in their lives. Not only does it make sense for the security of the children, it also has freed me up as a parent to earn a living and pursue my dreams. By knowing that my children are in the safe keep of their grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc – I am able focus and move forward. I have to say also say that with grandparents on your childcare team, there are a couple of things the kids can get – when money is tight (smile). I was really excited when my son was born – and my Dad was able to watch my son in retirement. It was not only good for my family, it also made him (my Dad) feel productive and needed. Plus, with him as a childcare provider – my costs were reduced considerably as I paid him a fraction of what I would have for a traditional childcare center.

For those of you that might not have access to elderly family members, adopt one – and there are a number of childcare organizations that link up grandparents with parents. A great example to this is

Man, between Michelle Obama’s Mama in the White House and Joe Biden’s no-nonsense Mom around, those White House Kids (ALL OF THEM) -should be in line —–

I mean I love Tim’s in your face commentaries and writing style so it was an honor to exchange ideas with him. Also, since I’m used to asking the Questions it was cool to be the subject for once.

Check out the conversation with Me and Timothy Sexton right HERE.
